Josh found himself on the run and in possession of a stolen artifact when serendipitously he saw the convenience store before him become a forest. Upon meeting Autumn, he decided that this new land was a much better alternative to his life back in the city. He set out to turn over a new leaf, being helpful wherever he could.

Churchill is a cat. A talking cat, which is extraordinary here, but pretty common where he lives. Found as an orphan and raised by the Gnomes, he seeks to set right a wrong from his childhood that seemingly involves a plot of the Gnomes. He is a shrewd negotiator and surprisingly proficient cook.
